The Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States was a Civil War Union veterans organization. In some cases the collection includes a memorial card and a memorial sketch of the veteran; in other cases the collection contains only a memorial sketch or only a memorial card. The memorial sketches usually include extensive biographical information and an account of the veteran’s military service during the Civil War. Some of these sketches include a portrait of the veteran. The memorial cards usually contain the veteran’s rank and regiment; date and place of death; and date and location of funeral.
