Necrology scrapbooks, Volumes 1-32

The necrology scrapbooks comprise photocopies of death notices, obituaries, and probate announcements clipped primarily from St. Louis newspapers and compiled into scrapbooks by the staff of the Missouri Historical Society library. Most of the clippings are obituaries, some of which include a portrait of the deceased. In most, but not all, cases, the name and date of the newspaper from which the clipping was clipped is written on the article. ("G-D" indicates Globe-Democrat; "P-D" indicates Post-Dispatch; "Rep" indicates Missouri Republican/St. Louis Republic.) The majority of clippings in Volumes 1-32 of these necrology scrapbooks are dated circa 1880s-1970s. Addresses in the index usually refer to the place of residence of the deceased, place of death, or place of the funeral.
