Civil War Discharge Certificates and Soldiers' Claims, St. Louis, 1865

This source includes discharge certificates and soldiers’ claims mostly for veterans of the 40th Missouri Infantry and 41st Missouri Infantry regiments. The discharge certificates include the soldier’s name, rank, company, regiment, date of enrollment, date and location of discharge, reason for discharge, place of birth, age, and physical description. Soldier’s claims include the soldier’s name, age, place of residence, rank, company, regiment, date and location of enlistment and discharge, nature of his claim, and signature. In most cases this collection includes both a discharge and a soldier’s claim for each soldier; in some cases, however, the collection only contains one of these documents.
