Wages account of the steamer Hiawatha, circa 1863

This handwritten payroll shows pilots, engineers, roustabouts, and other crewmen. Entries include the crew member's name, occupation, dates of employment, number of days worked, wages per month, and amount paid. This document is part of the Charles Parsons Papers. Charles Parsons was a captain and assistant quartermaster at St. Louis during the Civil War. In cases in which the name was difficult to decipher, alternate spellings have been added to this index.
