The title page of this record book reads, "Emergency Specials That Were on the Force During the World's Fair Period." At the time of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (1904 St. Louis World's Fair), 500 special policemen were sworn in to meet the emergency. These men took the place of the more experienced officers who were detailed at the fair. Entries in this record book usually include name, residential address, age, height, country of birth, married or single, occupation, number of years in city, date of appointment, and remarks (such as dropped, dismissed, resigned).
